Qualifications – All Candidates

All candidates for office must meet the following general qualifications:
(a) be in good standing with both:

• Seneca Polytechnic, which shall be determined by having no violations of major policies of Seneca Polytechnic according to the criteria as set forth in Schedule I of this Policy; and
• Seneca Student Federation, as determined by the Board of Directors;

(b) be able to complete their entire Term of Office, including any scheduled training related to that office;
(c) further, the following persons shall not be eligible for nomination or to hold office:

• Candidates for the student representative on the Seneca Board of Governors;
• The sitting student representative on the Seneca Board of Governors; or
• Candidates who are serving on other student governments or representative boards, including but not limited to the Seneca Athletics Association or other post-secondary student unions.

Qualifications – Voting Director (Board of Directors Positions)

A candidate for the office of Voting Director on the Board shall meet all of the following qualifications:

• The candidate shall be legally eligible to be a Director in accordance with the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act; and
• The candidate shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age on the first day on which they take office; and
• The candidate shall be enrolled in at least their second semester at Seneca and shall remain a registered student at Seneca for their entire Term of Office; and
• As of Nominations Day, the candidate shall have a Program Grade Point Average (Program GPA) and Term Grade Point Average (Term GPA) of at least 3.0; and
• No Member shall serve as a Director of the Corporation for more than two Terms of Office.

Qualifications – President Position

A candidate for the office of President of the Seneca Student Federation shall meet all of the following qualifications:

• Reside in the Province of Ontario and be available to fulfill the duties of their office in person at the offices of the Seneca Student Federation;
• The candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number; and
• The candidate shall be enrolled in at least their second semester at Seneca and shall be able to serve a complete Term of Office; and
• As of Nominations Day, the candidate shall have a Program Grade Point Average (Program GPA) and Term Grade Point Average (Term GPA) of at least 3.0, unless the President is seeking a second term of office and has not taken any courses, in which case this section is not applicable; and
• The candidate shall agree to reduce their course load during their Term of Office to no more than two courses per semester in order to accommodate a forty (40) hour work week during business hours, provided that the President is not required to take any courses while in office; and
• No Member shall serve as President of the Seneca Student Federation for more than two Terms of Office.

Qualifications – Local Branch Council Positions (Vice President and Coordinator Positions)

A candidate for a position on the Local Branch Council shall meet all of the following qualifications:

• Reside in the Province of Ontario and be available to fulfill the duties of their office in person at the offices of the Seneca Student Federation;
• The candidate shall be enrolled in at least their second semester at Seneca and shall remain a registered student at Seneca for their entire Term of Office; and
• The candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number; and
• As of Nominations Day, the candidate shall have a Program Grade Point Average (Program GPA) and Term Grade Point Average (Term GPA) of at least 3.0; and
• The candidate shall be able to work the following hours during their Term of Office:
• The Vice President shall be able to work twenty (20) hours per week during the business week; and
• The Coordinator shall be able to work twelve (12) hours per week during the business week; and
• No Member shall serve in the same Local Branch Council position for more than two Terms of Office.
